A woman says she felt unsettled after learning a neighbor had been quietly watching her home and messaging her husband with suspicions of infidelity while he was away.

The woman, posting as Reddit user GlowingHearts1867, explained that her husband took their children on a weekend trip.

While they were gone, her brother visited so the two could discuss their mother’s cognitive decline, something they preferred to talk about privately while the kids were away.

Neighbor’s Accusation

Later that evening, their cousin stopped by. After sharing drinks, the cousin drove the brother home, leaving his car in the driveway overnight.

According to the original poster (OP), the neighbor noticed the unfamiliar vehicle and began documenting it. She later discovered that the neighbor had taken photos of the car and texted her husband describing a man he believed had stayed the night, accusing her of cheating.

Her husband apparently laughed off the accusation and told the neighbor the car belonged to his brother-in-law, who had left it after having a few beers.

When the couple reviewed their message history with the neighbor, the OP said they realized this was not the first time he had been monitoring the house.

The messages appeared to come when the neighbor knew the husband was away. The woman said the last similar text had been seven months earlier.

The OP wrote that the discovery left her feeling uncomfortable in her own home and considering confronting the neighbor directly. Her husband, she said, preferred responding with polite requests to stop and then ignoring the behavior.

‘Creep’

Reddit commentators largely backed the woman’s concerns amid more than 550 remarks in two days.

A supporter felt that, “your husband is missing the point. Neighbor is a creep and making you uncomfortable in your own home and that’s unacceptable.

“Tell him to stuff the bro-code where the sun don’t shine and stand up for you and tell neighbor to mind his own business.”

Meanwhile, a contributor shared, “Unfortunately, I don’t think the police will do much about this particular situation… until it escalates. Still, I think OP should at least report it so they’ll have it on the record.”

Concerns about privacy at home are not uncommon.

A guide published by Barefoot Professional Investigations notes that, “most people think of their homes as a sanctuary from prying eyes, but unfortunately, this isn’t always the case.”

The blog also warns that neighbors who appear unusually aware of someone’s schedule may be paying closer attention than expected.

According to a survey cited in a Newsweek report, 36 percent of Americans say they have fallen out with a neighbor, while one-in-five believe someone nearby may be spying on them.

‘If anything else happens’

In an update to her post, GlowingHearts1867 said her husband plans to send a firmer message asking the neighbor to stop monitoring the property.

“If [the neighbor] does it again, I’m going to make an online police report,” the OP concluded.

“I don’t expect the police to do anything, but if I make an online report it’s assigned a case number and I can follow up through that if anything else happens.”

Newsweek has reached out to GlowingHearts1867 for comment via Reddit. We could not verify the details of the case.
