Every month, when Netflix adds a new haul of shows to its lineup, we’re reminded of all the great series we’ve never watched.

This month on Netflix, Watch With Us is recommending a fantastic limited series starring Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, a surprisingly insightful sitcom starring Anna Faris and a wild dramedy starring Elizabeth Hurley.

You can’t go wrong adding any of these Netflix shows to your viewing list.

Check out our recommendations for the underrated gems you should watch on Netflix in July 2025.

‘The Royals’ (2015–2018)

The Royals- TV Series Official Trailer

The Royals is a bit like if The Crown and Gossip Girl had a baby — an illegitimate baby who was next in line for the throne, or something similarly scandalous. The series follows an alternate version of the British Royal Family in which monarchs Queen Helena (Elizabeth Hurley) and King Simon (Vincent Regan) rule the United Kingdom and expect their eldest son Robert (Max Brown) to inherit the throne, leaving their younger twin children Liam (William Moseley) and Eleanor (Alexandra Park) free to enjoy a life of debauchery.

But when Robert dies unexpectedly, the royals are thrown into a chaotic tailspin as they begin to turn Liam from a spare into an heir. It’s totally over‑the‑top and ridiculous — but it’s also a lot of sexy, silly fun.

‘Maniac’ (2018)

In a futuristic world, two mentally ill people join a bizarre pharmaceutical study. Annie (Emma Stone) and Owen (Jonah Hill) connect during the study in which they are subjected to intense hallucinations and experience entire lives from the point of view of completely different people. Behind the scenes, the scientists running the study (Justin Theroux, Sonoya Mizuno and Sally Field) have their own drama.

As the AI controlling the study goes rogue, things get more and more out of control while secrets are revealed. Maniac lives up to its name — it’s a trippy bizarre sci‑fi fantasy show that will have you asking, “Um, what just happened?” more than a few times (in the best way). But it also heartbreakingly explores grief, loss, love and mental health.

‘Mom’ (2013–2021)

This long‑running sitcom from The Big Bang Theory hitmaker Chuck Lorre stars Allison Janney and Anna Faris as mother‑daughter duo Bonnie and Christy Plunkett, respectively. Bonnie and Christy reconnect after years of estrangement just as Christy starts to attend Alcoholics Anonymous.

Bonnie, also an addict, uses her rather unconventional parenting methods to help Christy with her two kids — pregnant teen Violet (Sadie Calvano) and precocious Roscoe (Blake Garrett Rosenthal). Mom is surprisingly powerful in the way it portrays addiction recovery and parenting. Faris and Janney both comedic rockstars in their own right shine as a duo and it’s a pleasure to watch them play off each other.
