Tasmanian senator Jacqui Lambie has lashed the “rude” behaviour of US President Donald Trump, as he is yet to grant a meeting with Anthony Albanese since returning to the White House earlier this year.

Trump was due to meet Albanese on the sidelines of the G20 summit in June, though the meeting was cancelled after Trump returned to the White House to address a deterioration of the Middle East conflict. Lambie said it wasn’t Albanese’s fault “at all” that the meeting was yet to occur, instead squaring the blame directly at Trump.

“I think it’s really rude actually of Trump in doing what he’s doing,” Lambie told Nine’s Today.

“I don’t think it makes any difference [with] Trump, even if you were mates with him, or you weren’t, or no matter how many times you see him, when he decides to make his mind up, he makes his mind up and everybody else pays the consequences.”

It comes as Defence Minister Richard Marles travels to Washington DC this week to meet with his defence counterpart Peter Hegseth and other senior Trump administration officials.
