The Boston Red Sox signed star Alex Bregman to a huge free agency deal last offseason, but Bregman opted out of his deal with Boston and entered free agency again this winter.
As a result, it seems like he’s headed for a huge contract this winter.
Teams like the Red Sox, New York Yankees, New York Mets, Detroit Tigers, and Chicago Cubs have all been closely linked to Bregman. It doesn’t seem like he’s going to get a $200 million deal like he might have hoped, but he should land a big deal with one of the teams mentioned above.
Prediction: Alex Bregman signs a $150 million deal with the Boston Red Sox
The Red Sox need to do everything in their power to make sure Bregman returns to Boston.
They’ve already added pieces like Sonny Gray and Willson Contreras in a pair of trades. Contreras could slot in at first base every day, but they still need to add a third baseman.
Bregman was well-liked in Boston during his one year with the team. He was also seemingly the vocal leader of the team that helped push them to the postseason.
The Red Sox should be willing to give Bregman at least $150 million. Last year, they gave him $120 million over a few seasons. This offseason, they should be willing to offer a bit more to secure the star for years to come.
