Alysa Liu is somehow living the most peaceful time of her life, while also the most hectic.

After returning from winning double gold medals at the Winter Olympic Games, Liu went from a star in the figure skating world to a pop culture icon overnight. Her 200,000 Instagram followers ballooned to over seven million in just a few short weeks.

When asked what she’s done since returning home from Milan, Liu answered honestly: nothing.

For the first few days back in the United States, Liu went into hermit mode, disconnecting from social media entirely and hanging out with her friends while catching up on ample amounts of sleep.

But following that hibernation, she’s been on a media tour for the ages, doing interviews across morning shows to late-night. Liu even had to get on Instagram to ask people to stop being so crazy when trying to meet her, citing an incident in which she was chased to her car by onlookers.

The world wants to know every little thing about Liu, including her taste in music. Since performing at the Olympics, multiple songs that she performed have topped music charts in the United States and around the world.

She’s become a trendsetter for Gen Z and the youth of today, but the 20-year-old doesn’t want everything she consumes to be part of the social zeitgeist.

In a recent interview, Liu was questioned whether she would be releasing her own Spotify Playlist for her new wave of millions of fans to listen to.

The gold medalist figure skater shut the idea down immediately.

“Hell no,” she said. “I will not. I don’t know. I don’t want to give everything away.”

While Liu is in the whirlwind of post-Olympics stardom, she will soon have to shift focus back to competition. She will look to defend her women’s individual crown at the upcoming Figure Skating World Championships in Prague at the end of March.
