Apple Martin is shutting down unsubstantiated claims she was expelled from school over bullying.
Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s daughter shared a screenshot of a comment she left on an Instagram post via her Instagram Stories on Monday, February 16, and wrote, “Just a quick little message from myself.”
The screenshot showed a comment Apple posted, in which she appeared to reply to a claim that she was “expelled” from a school. It is not clear what prompted Apple’s response.
“Hi! I didn’t wanna respond but this narrative is completely false and has gotten so out of hand,” she wrote.
“I have never been expelled from any school, especially not for bullying anyone. I completely understand ppl not liking me and that is okay!” Apple, 21, continued. “The internet is a place where ppl can share their opinions. But this rumor is completely untrue, I am not that type of person and anyone who is close to me knows that.”
Apple is due to graduate from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, where she is studying law, history and society, in May, per a recent Vogue profile.
While speaking with Vogue, Apple said she once dreamed of going to law school after graduating but now plans to follow in her Oscar-winning mom’s acting footsteps.
“I was in that rebellious, ‘I don’t wanna be like my parents’ type of phase,” she said of her law school dreams.
“I love dancing and I love acting. My dream is to act,” Apple shared, noting that while she also loves singing. “I don’t wanna be a singer. … I like musical theater, but getting onstage by yourself to sing is so terrifying.”
Apple was previously defended by another attendee at the 2024 Le Bal des Débutantes after she was accused of “mean girl” behavior.
Back in November 2024, Apple made her high society debut at the glamorous affair in Paris, but a TikTok video shared by French magazine Paris Match caused a stir on social media. In the clip, Apple and fellow debutante Aliénor Loppin de Montmort were spotted taking photos, with Apple confidently posing for the camera, prompting some commenters to accuse her of stealing the spotlight.
“[Apple’s] genuinely the nicest girl ever! She really doesn’t deserve an ounce of what she’s getting,” Aliénor told People in December 2024. “She was the nicest girl ever towards not only me but all the debs!”
Apple’s parents, Gwyneth, 53, and Chris, 48, attended the event, as did her brother, Moses, 19. Apple shared a cute father-daughter moment with Chris as they danced together at the ball, per a video shared by Paris Match at the time.
The Coldplay frontman married Gwyneth in December 2003, but the pair went their separate ways in a famous “conscious uncoupling” announced in March 2014. Their divorce was finalized in July 2016.
Despite their split, the exes remain close and committed to coparenting Apple and Moses as a team.
“Chris and I committed to putting them first and that’s harder than it looks because some days you really don’t want to be with the person that you are getting divorced from,” Gwyneth said during a September 2020 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. “But if you’re committed to having family dinner, then you do it. You take a deep breath, and you look the person in the eye, and you remember your pact, and you smile, and you hug, and you recommit to this new relationship that you are trying to foster.”
