Apple TV+’s Imperfect Women is Elisabeth Moss’ first TV project after wrapping up The Handmaid’s Tale.
Based on Araminta Hall’s novel of the same name, Imperfect Women tells the story of a crime that ruins the friendship of three women — and all the secrets that come out in the aftermath. Moss joined the show as the star and executive producer after playing June for six seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale.
“It’s going great. It’s pretty early, but it’s a project that’s been near and dear to my heart for five years now,” Moss told TV Line in June 2025. “Through various boring industry maneuvers, two strikes and a pandemic — and my own schedule, this day job of Handmaid’s that I had — it’s taken a second to get here. But I’m very glad that it’s arrived in this package that it’s arrived in, because this cast is insane. It’s crazy.”
Moss teased that Imperfect Women “came around at the right time” in her career.
“I just feel like it came together the way that it was supposed to,” she added. “And it’s a fantastic palate cleanser after Handmaid’s. It’s super different. It’s fun, it’s sexy. It’s obviously a drama, but it’s got this thriller element to it.”

What Has Elisabeth Moss Shared About the Show?
“From the moment I received Araminta’s novel, I couldn’t put it down. It was such an electrifying read; I fell in love with it immediately,” Moss said in an April 2025 press release. “I’ve admired Kerry and her work as an actor and producer for many years and have been looking for something to work with her on, and was so thrilled that she responded to the material when we sent it to her and Pilar at Simpson Street. They were the first and only people we thought of. We are so happy that Apple and 20th Television agreed to partner with us on this, as well. It’s all an absolute match made in heaven.”
What Inspired ‘Imperfect Women’?
The show is based on Hall’s novel, which was released in 2020.
“I couldn’t be happier that my book has found a home at Apple, home of some of my favorite programs,” Hall shared in a press release. “And to be working with Elisabeth and Lindsey [McManus] is a dream. They have an incredible talent for storytelling and immediately understood my book in exactly the way I meant it to be read. And then to have Kerry Washington on board is like a bonus on top of a bonus. My book couldn’t be in better hands.”
Imperfect Women is being adapted by Annie Weisman with executive producer Lindsey McManus, Pilar Savone, Hall, Moss, Washington, Kay Oyegun and Lesli Linka Glatter, who will also be directing the pilot episode.
