The Toronto Blue Jays have a chance to sneak into the American League Wild Card race while also having a shot to steal the AL East from the New York Yankees.

But with these expectations will come big roster decisions. Toronto will need to swing a few big trades to acquire more talent if it wants to chase down the Yankees.

FanSided’s Vanessa Serrao recently urged the Blue Jays to cut ties with prospect Will Robertson in a trade this season, though Serrao noted it isn’t the most likely outcome of the trade deadline.

“Robertson is a prospect who is gearing up as a valuable trade chip for the Blue Jays. This is evident leading up to the trade deadline,” Serrao wrote. “His performance in Triple-A recently has demonstrated a power surge and has made him an intriguing prospect for other teams. He earned one hit across 10 at-bats following his call-up this season in the big leagues.

“While he was recently optioned back to Triple-A, his upside as a trade asset continues to be a topic of discussion. The Blue Jays need to address other roster needs, and he would be a solid option to deal.”

Robertson isn’t the most valuable piece in Toronto’s farm system, but his production this season makes him more valuable than he used to be.

He doesn’t have much of a future with Toronto, especially if the Blue Jays are going to look to add more outfielders at the trade deadline.

With the Blue Jays expected to pursue additional outfield help, Robertson is completely expendable. In fact, he could even be used in a trade to bring in an outfielder like Kyle Stowers if the Blue Jays get aggressive at the trade deadline.
