The bodies of an Ohio couple were found inside their home after authorities were called to what a coroner’s office has confirmed was a murder-suicide.

A son-in-law of one the victims told law enforcement that it had been several days since he’d had contact with Claire and Frederick Buckley, resulting in a welfare check at the couple’s Liberty Township home on Wednesday, April 1, according to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, WXIX-TV reported. Liberty Township is a Cincinnati suburb.

After deputies arrived at the residence on Hidden Oaks Lane, they found Claire, 72, and Frederick, 70, dead, authorities confirmed to the TV station. A dog was also discovered dead inside a living room.

Claire, whose body was found on a couch, was fatally shot, according to the Butler County Coroner’s Office, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported. Coroner records obtained by the newspaper indicate she died of a homicide.

Frederick died by suicide, according to records reviewed by the newspaper.

While speaking with WCPO-TV, a neighbor who lived next to the Buckleys’ home described the couple as “very nice” and “very kind” people who had a dog named Luna.

The neighbor, who preferred to not share their name with the TV station, said the news of their deaths were shocking.

“Just this past week, when they were home, I heard them in the backyard playing with Luna and throwing the ball and the Frisbee for her,” the neighbor told WCPO-TV. “And they laugh out loud watching her. I mean, they get total joy out of that dog.”

Authorities are continuing to investigate the Buckleys’ deaths, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported.

In Minnesota, a father and 3-year-old his son died in a recent murder-suicide at their home, according to authorities, Us Weekly previously reported.

Gene Russell Bartnes was initially found dead by his brother inside Bartnes’ Holmesville Township home on March 30, according to the Becker County Sheriff’s Office.

The brother went to check on Bartnes, 45, when Bartnes did not make it to work that day and called authorities after finding Barnes’ body, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Deputies who went to the home found the bodies of Bartnes and his son, Koltyn Wayne Bartnes, according to authorities.

A medical examiner’s office ruled Koltyn’s death as a homicide and Gene’s death as a suicide, the sheriff’s office said.

“Our hearts are shattered as we share the unimaginable loss of a beautiful 3-year-old boy,” reads a GoFundMe page created in support of Koltyn’s mother, Kristi Frazier.
