The Milwaukee Brewers came into the offseason needing to shore up their roster as they work toward the future. They opted to trade their ace, Freddy Peralta, to the New York Mets in exchange for a pair of very talented prospects.
While this is the biggest move the Brewers could have made this offseason, they’ve opted to make a few smaller moves to bolster their roster.
On Wednesday, Brewers insider Javik Blake reported that the Brewers signed 28-year-old outfielder Jacob Hurtubise away from the rival Cincinnati Reds.
Hurtubise has spent time in the big leagues with the Reds across two seasons, but he’s never been very impressive. His bat isn’t usable at the big league level right now, but Milwaukee thrives on getting the most out of talent like Hurtubise.
Still, Hurtubise is an excellent teammate. His Reds teammates never shied away from praising the speedy outfielder.
His speed and defense helped earn his chances at the big league level, even if it was as a pinch runner or late-inning defensive substitute.
With the Brewers, Hurtubise’s career is looking up. Milwaukee should be able to get him to reach his full potential, though it’s hard to tell what his ceiling is at this point.
