Things got testy between Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Trevor Megill and the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday after Megill struck out outfielder Daulton Varsho to end the top of the eighth inning.

Broadcast cameras caught Megill jawing with Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. as the pitcher walked into the dugout.

Milwaukee wound up winning the contest 2-1 in front of a home crowd of 23,098 fans at American Family Field. The Brewers took two out of three contests from the Blue Jays in the three-game series.

When speaking to reporters after the game, Megill explained what caused the heated moment with the Blue Jays. He claimed Toronto thought he had something on his pant leg when he rubbed a baseball on his pants.

Megill said he had nothing on his pants.

“I was rubbing balls on my leg, somebody on their bench, I think it was (Davis) Schneider was complaining about it,” Megill said, via video from Hunter Baumgardt of Fox Sports 920. “I looked at him, I said, ‘I promise I don’t have anything on there.’ Immediately got (expletive) yous from their bench.”

Megill appreciated that the fan base had his back on Thursday. He struggled in his previous two outings, giving up four earned runs in a 7-3 loss to the Washington Nationals on Friday and three earned runs in a 9-7 loss to Toronto on Tuesday.

“That’s very much appreciated from the Milwaukee crowd, man. It’s been a rough last two, and that was great to see,” Megill said of the ovation he received from the crowd on Thursday. “I mean, we got fired up a little bit from… what happened in the middle of the inning, and just kind of, you know, handled business.

“And when walking off, I just felt that energy, and, kind of, pulling from the crowd. So once again, yeah, thank you guys.”

With the win, the Brewers improved to 10-8 on the season. Milwaukee is a half a game back from the Pittsburgh Pirates for first place in the NL Central.

The Brewers will next travel to play the Miami Marlins to start a three-game series on Friday.
