Bride Can’t Believe What Husband Does on Wedding Day: ‘Divorce Papers’

A groom’s grand gesture on his wedding day has gone viral.

In a video posted to TikTok, his bride shared the moment so sweet it has viewers from across the globe in tears with 1.5 million views. The clip of a surprise singing performance by the groom and the couple’s friends has been met with a mix of humorous first reactions and genuine emotion. Chrissie Huntley, 31, spoke to Newsweek about hearing her husband sing and what the effort meant to her, especially as a singing teacher.

Huntley said she had meticulously planned every minute of their big day in Bristol, U.K., so when she was told to gather outside, she said she “immediately burst into tears.” Her anxiety was heightened when she couldn’t find her groom Harry, who suddenly appeared and announced his surprise.

“We were all told to gather outside, which made me incredibly nervous as I had no idea what was happening,” she said.

“As you all know, Chrissie is a singing teacher…and she has always told me I have a nice voice,” Harry said. “So, I’ve been practicing over the last three months to sing here, but I didn’t want to do it on my own, so I’ve got a choir of your students and best friends to come help me.”

A Heartfelt Performance

Harry’s words were followed by an emotional surprise wedding performance, a moment Huntley said made her feel “so incredibly special and so incredibly proud of him.”

The thoughtful gesture was made even more significant by the effort that went into it. Harry, along with the “choir” of her students and friends, had spent three months rehearsing in secret.

“I really had no idea as they spent evenings together while I was at work teaching,” she said.

For Harry, who had never performed in front of anyone, the act was a tremendous step outside of his comfort zone. The singers were her friends and students—many of whom had never performed before either.

“It felt so special to have them put their nerves to one side to come together and sing,” Huntley said.

The Internet’s Emotional Reaction

The video’s initial reactions on TikTok were a mix of playful dread and pure joy. Some commenters joked about the groom’s over-the-top gesture, with one user writing: “Divorce papers straight away.”

However, the joke quickly gave way to genuine emotion, as evidenced by another person’s comment: “Now, normally, I’d find this so embarrassing…tell me why I’m crying?”

The gesture spoke volumes about Harry’s character and their relationship. According to Huntley, he has never been good at surprises.

“The fact he managed to pull this off, especially a surprise that takes him completely out of his comfort zone and into a space that he knows means so, so much to me, just solidified how thoughtful, generous and kind he is,” Huntley said. “I am one very lucky wife.”
