Two people have been injured by falling trees in separate incidents in Brisbane, as ex-tropical cyclone Alfred continues to make its way inland and fierce winds hit the city.

Parts of Brisbane have been experiencing fierce wind gusts up to 96km/h since 8pm, with debris flying through the air and tens of thousands of people without power.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said crews responded to two separate incidents of people being injured by trees on Saturday night, with one person taken to hospital.

“Paramedics assessed a stable female patient after a tree reportedly fell onto a vehicle on Anzac Avenue at 9.22pm. The patient has declined transport,” the spokesperson said.

A separate incident occurred earlier in the night in Moreton Bay, the spokesperson said.

“Paramedics have transported a stable patient to the Prince Charles Hospital with minor injuries after a tree reportedly fell onto a house on Francis Road in Lawnton at 7.50pm,” they said.

“There were three other occupants in the house, but they did not require transport.”

Queensland Police said soutbound lanes of the Bruce Highway near Gympie Arterial Road are also closed due to a fallen tree.
