Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark finally revealed what led to her missing the team’s game earlier this week that landed the Fever in hot water with the WNBA
Clark admitted she missed the game due to back soreness, but the decision not to play was largely dictated by her confidence level in her body as she returns from a variety of injuries that limited her to 13 games last season.
“I think, at the end of the day, it’s me and my confidence,” Clark told reporters Friday before returning against the visiting Golden State Valkyries. “Coming back from injury and having however many soft tissue injuries [in 2025] is a real mental challenge.”

Clark, whose absence this week came in a win over the Portland Fire, admitted that she doesn’t plan to play in a given game if she doesn’t have 100% trust in her body after suffering through several different injuries last season.
“These are the best players in the world, and if I don’t feel 100% confident in my body on Game 5 of the year, I don’t know if that’s really worth it in that scenario,” she said.
The star point guard played just fine when she returned to the court this weekend, though, dropping a team-high 22 points with nine rebounds in the Fever’s 90-82 victory over the Valkyries to improve to 4-2 on the season.
