If there’s one thing about Charles Barkley, it’s that he is never afraid to say what is on his mind and let you know what he thinks.
After what has been a tumultuous season for the Los Angeles Lakers, with exposés and a new rumor hitting the team every day, Barkley threw more fuel on the fire this week.
Since a long-form feature detailing the former Lakers ownership being fed up with LeBron James and only re-signing this year in fear of poor public response, the all-time great has been less than enthused when talking about his current franchise.
James teared up on the sidelines Wednesday night when his former organization, the Cleveland Cavaliers, debuted a tribute video to him in what could be his last game in the arena if he decides to retire this offseason.
Barkley remarked that the current Lakers have no chance of winning a championship and that he wished that James had never left Cleveland.
He also made a bold statement about James’ future with the Lakers.

“There’s one thing I’m sure of: this is his last year with the Lakers,” said Barkley on-air. “He’s not going to play with the Lakers next year.”
Barkley would go on to say that it didn’t make sense for either side to continue their relationship, and that if he were to have a farewell tour, it should be in Cleveland. Along with that, he added that James is now the third-best player on the Lakers, and that his $50-plus cap hit is too much if they want to build around Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.
James will be an unrestricted free agent this summer and could wear a uniform other than the Lakers for the first time since 2018.
