The Kansas City Chiefs pulled off a blockbuster trade, acquiring DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans for a conditional fifth-round pick. After losing Rashee Rice and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, along with Juju Smith-Schuster dealing with a significant hamstring injury, the team needed a playmaker.

Enter Hopkins.

Hopkins secured 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns with the Titans in 2023, proving that despite being 32 years old, he is still one of the premiere receivers in the NFL. The Titans have struggled in 2024, as quarterback Will Levis has dealt with turnover issues and injuries.

Hopkins has only secured 173 yards and one touchdown through six games. Despite the low production, he now gets a chance to emerge as a top wide receiver for the Chiefs.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke to reporters about whether the team will immediately start Hopkins.

When asked if Hopkins would play in Week 8, Reid replied with, “Why wait, right?”

The Chiefs are currently 6-0 on the season and are set to face the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. Despite the Raiders being presumed an easy opponent, divisional matchups are always tough.

The Chiefs are also razor thin at the receiver position, but now they have Hopkins to add some extra firepower for Patrick Mahomes.

The usual case when trades happen is that players are often not activated right away, especially on short weeks. However, the Chiefs are not going to wait around. Reid and the offense are likely wanting Hopkins to immediately hit the field and start catching passes from Mahomes.

The Chiefs’ wide receiving corps head into Sunday was Xavier Worthy and Justin Watson as the only healthy players. Now, they have Hopkins who can fit right into a starting role.

Kansas City just announced that Skyy Moore was also placed on IR with a core muscle injury. The injuries keep stacking for the Chiefs, so expect the team to potentially make another move before the NFL trade deadline passes.

One of the biggest names mentioned in trades is the current Los Angeles Rams wide receiver, Cooper Kupp. Kupp is coming off an ankle injury, but is now fully healthy and will suit up on Thursday Night Football.

The New York Jets have also been fielding calls for Mike Williams. Both Williams and Kupp would be welcomed additions to the Chiefs roster. Should the team be serious about securing the first-ever consecutive Super Bowl victory in a row, expect them to rebuild their wide receiver room in the coming weeks.
