Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been slapped with a $14,069 fine by the NFL for unsportsmanlike conduct, per NFL Insider Tom Pelissero. The gesture (caught on film below) appears to be miming the shape of a gun after a touchdown pass in Week 11’s match-up against the Buffalo Bills.

That game was also notable for being the Chiefs’ first loss of the season, ending with a final score of 30-21. The Bills edged out KC, dropping the team to 9-1. Despite a late push from Mahomes to orchestrate one of his signature comebacks in the final two minutes, a costly holding penalty and a crucial interception by Taylor Rapp ultimately sealed Buffalo’s victory.

Mahomes turned in another solid performance, completing 23 passes for 196 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. However, the game came down to defensive plays, where Buffalo’s defense prevailed.

The Chiefs recorded just one interception and forced three punts, while the Bills sacked Mahomes twice, intercepted him twice, and forced four punts—making the decisive impact in the game. Mahomes is currently completing 69.5% of his passes this season, totaling 2,404 yards, 15 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.

This new fine by the NFL may add a little extra sting to the Chiefs’ loss, but it is not the first time that Mahomes has been fined for unsportsmanlike conduct. Last year, the QB was fined $50,000 for criticizing game officials publicly and yelling at them following a Week 14 loss, also to the Buffalo Bills.

Mahomes was frustrated after wide receiver Kadarius Toney was flagged for an offside penalty late in the fourth quarter, wiping out what would have been a game-winning touchdown against the Bills. The Chiefs were unable to recover, turning the ball over on downs, and the Bills ran out the clock to secure the win.

“I had outbursts on the sideline and everybody saw it on a big game, and so there’s going to be consequences to that,” Mahomes said last year of his previous fine.. “Now you’ve just got to live with those consequences, learn from it, become better from it and not try to let that happen again. But we kind of just kept it moving. That was a couple weeks ago now, and now we’re just focused on the Raiders and how we can do whatever we can to beat them.”

The QB has not yet commented on this new fine, but it will remain to be seen whether he accepts it with the same grace.
