The outcome of shadow cabinet will be before parliament sits, Littleproud said earlier.

Asked again how long it would take, Littleproud said it would be before parliament returns in July or August.

“Before parliament sits, that’s when you need the shadow cabinet. That’s a reasonable assumption to make, and I think that that would be the intent of everybody because it would be great to walk in as a shadow cabinet together,” he said.

“I don’t want to put specific days or weeks on it and I don’t think that that is constructive. I think that this is a positive development, one that does show good faith and that’s why I wanted to reciprocate today by this.”

Littleproud has batted away questions on why the original decision to split had to be rushed now that there has been a pause amid crisis talks.

Again, Littleproud blamed the Liberals saying their timeline was originally very long.

Asked about the timeline, Littleproud said, “the timeline that they were talking about was months away, it was a review of all policies”.

“We have been respectful of the processes that Sussan, as the leader of the Liberal Party, wanted to determine, and I think that that is only fair that’s only reasonable.”
