One of the most intriguing position battles during NFL training camp and the preseason so far has been the Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback competition.

Anthony Richardson, who was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, has been fighting for the job with veteran signal caller Daniel Jones. To this point, neither player has clearly separated themselves as the obvious starter.

Many fans think that Richardson might get the starting nod due to the team investing so much into him. However, there are others who think that Richardson’s time as the team’s potential franchise quarterback have already come to an end.

There is no denying the massive upside that Richardson possesses. Jones, on the other hand, is a safe pick who could perform well if called upon.

NFL World Buzzing About What Bears QB Caleb Williams Just Did

No one knows for sure what head coach Shane Steichen is going to do, but one Colts’ insider has spoken out with his belief.

Mike Chappell, who has covered the team since they moved to Indianapolis from Baltimore, took to X to share some details and what he thinks Steichen will do.

“Having said that, Steichen’s comments on what will go into decision made me think he’s leaning toward Daniel Jones,” Chappell wrote.

He also shared the recent quote from Steichen about the quarterback competition and his upcoming decision.

“It’s everything, right?” Steichen said. “The operation, the communication in the huddle, the checks, getting guys on the same page. The consistency of all that, obviously, is going to play a big factor in this. I’ll go back and look at it, but I think the operation, just getting the completions, moving the ball up and down the field, taking what the defense gives you.”

Chappell finished off his belief that Jones will be the starter with a short comment.

“That sounds a lot like Daniel Jones.”

Tom Brady’s Appearance at Raiders’ Preseason Game Draws Attention

Should Jones win the starting job, there might be no turning back with Richardson. It would be a clear sign that the Colts do not believe in the 23-year-old quarterback as an option to lead the franchise.

It’s a big decision for Steichen. Jones may be the lean when it comes to Chappell’s reading of the head coach’s comments, but Richardson is still in play for the job until a final announcement is made.
