With an extra day to prepare for their Monday Night Football matchup against the Chicago Bears, there was hope that Week 6 may be a realistic return date for injured Washington Commanders star Terry McLaurin. However, that will unfortunately not be the case.
McLaurin, who has led the Commanders in receiving yards in every one of his six seasons in the NFL, has been dealing with a lingering quad injury that has forced him to miss the team’s last two games.
Fortunately, Deebo Samuel, an offseason addition by the Commanders this past offseason, has done a great job of stepping up as the No. 1 wide receiver in his place.
Despite this, most expect that if the Commanders are going to repeat last year’s success of making the NFC Championship game, it will need to come with McLaurin back in the mix offensively sooner rather than later.

On Saturday, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn shared an update on McLaurin’s status for Monday’s game, ruling him out for the contest. This comes after McLaurin was not spotted at the team’s Saturday morning practice.
In addition to this, fellow Commanders wide receiver Noah Brown, who famously caught the game-winning Hail Mary touchdown in the team’s 2024 matchup, will also miss the game due to his own groin and knee injuries.
The absence of McLaurin and Brown could certainly impact the effectiveness of the Commanders’ offense on Monday, particularly because Deebo Samuel is also no sure thing to play in the game.
According to Tom Schad of the Washington Post, Samuel is questionable to play in the matchup due to a bruised heel injury.

If Samuel also misses Monday’s game, the Commanders would be without their three top wide receivers, which would place even more responsibility on the rushing attack, Jayden Daniels, and the likes of backup wide receivers Luke McCaffrey, Jaylin Lane, and Chris Moore.
The Bears’ defense will certainly be coming into the matchup looking for revenge, given how they lost last season to the Commanders. So, regardless of whether Samuel is able to play or not, the Commanders’ offense better come prepared for what will likely be an inspired effort from their Week 6 opponents.
