The Washington Commanders are currently dealing with many injuries to their offensive core. Quarterback Jayden Daniels is still dealing with a knee sprain, and star wide receiver Terry McLaurin suffered a severe quad injury.

While Daniels is working his way back to the lineup, McLaurin’s status remains up in the air. The star pass catcher has been seeing doctors and specialists regarding the injury, and there were reports that surgery was a strong option.

If McLaurin received surgery for his quad injury, it would have led to up to two months off. Though that was the worst-case scenario, he has received a major update on needing surgery.

According to NFL insider Mike Garafolo, McLaurin will not need surgery. This is a massive update for the Commanders’ star.

“My understanding is there will be no surgery, at least not as of right now. That is a little bit of good news on Terry McLaurin. Any kind of core muscle surgery, you’re talking anywhere from six to eight weeks. So, that’s not in the cards as of right now, sources have told me on that one. That being said, he has not practiced in the last couple of days, so it doesnt sound like he is going to be playing. We will see about his status as Dan Quinn speaks to the media on Friday.”

McLaurin will more than likely not play in Week 4, but the core muscle specialist that the Commanders receiver saw determined that surgery on the core muscle injury he suffered will not be necessary right now.

Garofolo also indicated that the injury will be on the “shorter end” of things, in terms of when McLaurin can return to the field.

McLaurin just signed a three-year contract extension worth $96 million with the Commanders in August, after a long negotiation with the team and a trade request. It would be tragic for one of the league’s best receivers to miss multiple weeks.

So far through three weeks, he has picked up 149 yards. For the Commanders, the team is far better with McLaurin on the field, and it appears that may be the case sooner rather than later.
