Saturday is finally here, but that doesn’t mean you should give up on your Connections winning streak—or stop yourself from starting a new one.

Today’s brainteaser is difficult, with all of the words starting with the same letter, so there’s no need to stress if this one’s proving too tough to tackle. Luckily, Newsweek has some top tips for #650 that will lead you on the road to a win.

Warning: The answers to today’s Connections puzzle will also be revealed at the bottom of this page, so if you would like to work them out for yourself, we advise you scroll carefully.

How To Play ‘Connections’

To start the popular game, which was released by The New York Times in 2023, players must separate 16 words into four distinct categories.

The board is color-coded to indicate the varying levels of difficulty. Yellow is the easiest, followed by green, blue and purple. Once you correctly link four words, their color will be revealed.

For example, Friday’s game associated the words “compass,” “ruler,” “stencil” and “T-square” under the blue category “architectural drawing tools.”

Meanwhile, the purple category was “Bar ___,” and the terms linked to that were: “chart,” “exam,” “mitzvah” and “soap.”

Wyna Liu, a puzzle editor at the New York Times who helped develop Connections, told Newsweek readers last year to try to avoid “rage-solving.”

“My best piece of advice is to wait as long as you can before guessing,” she said in June. “You may see the board and have completely identified the category, seeing five words that could belong in that category.”

Liu added: “Don’t try to guess the four words in that category because, even though you know what the fifth member is, you won’t know which of the four it might not be.”
