Chip, chip, hooray!

A cult-favorite Costco ingredient is returning to shelves after two long years away, much to the delight of devoted Costco shoppers.

The retail giant has officially restocked their Kirkland Signature Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips after pulling the item from shelves in July 2024. At the time, Costco cited rising cocoa costs as the reason for halting sales of the product, which was sold through their Kirkland Signature private label.

Last week, Costco lovers noticed the item for sale online and in stores, and celebrated its return on Reddit.

“This is the best news! I was just at my warehouse last week and they weren’t in stock, but I just checked the app and they are in stock now!” one Redditor wrote.

“Saw them at the Milford, CT Costco yesterday. So excited!” another wrote.

Costco initially replaced the item with Nestlé Toll House chips, but some shoppers were unhappy with the change.

“Oh HELL YEAH! I’ve been a scrooge with my last bag (I refuse to buy Nestlé products) and I’m so psyched for this! Perfect timing too, I was REALLY starting to worry about the end of my current bag,” said one redditor.

“Yes!!! I ended up having to pay through the nose for Ghirardelli chips last Christmas. Everything else sucks, especially the Nestlé ones,” another wrote.

The 4.5-pound bags range in price from $11.99 to $12.59, depending on your location, representing an increase in price from several years ago.

In a photo from 2021, one Redditor revealed the bags were once priced at $7.99.

Costco has given shoppers plenty to celebrate lately.

Last week, shoppers swooned over the debut of Costco bakery’s Southern-style buttermilk biscuits. The flaky, oversized treats are sold in packs of 10 for $6.99, and are made with real buttermilk and baked fresh daily.

“Ohhhhhh with some sausage gravy,” one commenter wrote.

“I’m putting a chicken strip in between them with hot honey,” another said.

In July, the retailer also began offering a limited-time Vanilla Cookie Crunch Sundae at just $3. The irresistible dessert pairs Costco’s signature vanilla soft serve with chocolate syrup and Oreo-style cookie crumbles.
