While the Dallas Cowboys are a rumored potential beneficiary of the Maxx Crosby trade to the Baltimore Ravens falling through, Crosby’s tradability took a real hit amid a failed physical.
The Las Vegas Raiders dealt five-time Pro Bowl defensive end to the Ravens on March 7, but failing the medical exam resulted in the trade being nixed. Now, there’s more information on Crosby’s condition, as ESPN’s Ryan McFadden reported on Tuesday, regarding why the trade fell through.
“The Ravens’ concern centered on the uncertainty of Crosby’s durability after a couple of seasons in Baltimore because of a degenerative issue in his knee, a source told ESPN,” McFadden wrote.

Dallas team doctor Dan Cooper participated in Crosby’s evaluation for the Ravens, McFadden reported. Therefore, the Cowboys have a clear internal picture of whether trading for McFadden is worth the risk.
“In the past, Dallas has leaned on Cooper’s expertise in making decisions such as drafting Jaylon Smith in the second round in 2016, despite torn ligaments and nerve damage, and drafting Shavon Revel Jr. last year in the third round despite a torn ACL,” McFadden wrote. “But Cooper was not the primary voice in determining whether Baltimore should back out of the deal.”
That said, it looks like the Cowboys won’t be pursuing Crosby in a trade, McFadden reported. McFadden noted that the Cowboys were looking at trading Osa Odighizuwa and a couple of higher draft picks.
“When the Ravens backed out of the trade, Dallas contemplated getting back into the chase. Although the Cowboys did not 100% close the door on a Crosby trade, a source said they were not reengaging in talks.”
McFadden noted that the Ravens originally “beat out” Dallas in trade pursuits. The Cowboys have a serious need for pass rush help after trading star linebacker Micah Parsons last year, and the defense’s struggles after the trade.
