A manhunt is underway in Tennessee for a retired special forces veteran who allegedly shot his wife.

Craig Berry is wanted over the shooting of his wife during a domestic altercation on May 1, the Stewart County Sheriff’s Office said. She was transported to a medical facility after the shooting, but details about her condition were not immediately known.

Deputies had responded to their residence at around 1:30 a.m. that day, but Berry fled into the woods near the residence before their arrival, the sheriff’s office said. He was last seen near River Trace Road.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office said in a post on Facebook that it had secured an additional warrant for second-degree attempted murder.

The sheriff’s office said it was working with the U.S. Marshals Service to locate Berry.

“We will be conducting a very detailed search of the area from River Trace Road to Hwy 79 to parts of Hwy 232 this week involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

The sheriff’s office has warned that Berry is “armed and dangerous.”

“He is armed with at least one handgun and is believed to have taken extra ammunition. He was last seen near River Trace Road and was tracked by K-9’s on River Trace Road,” the sheriff’s office said. “We are asking the public to report any activity or suspicious circumstances to 911.”

This is a developing story. More to follow.
