A crazed motorist allegedly tried to run a Tesla off a Utah freeway while speeding over 100 mph.
Oscar Fayani, 27, was arrested Friday after Utah Highway Patrol troopers say he intentionally hit a Tesla while driving at speeds over 100 mph on Interstate 80 near Tooele, about 40 miles southwest of Salt Lake City, KSL.com reported.
Troopers were asked to be on the lookout for a “reckless driver” driving westbound on the interstate as calls came in saying a gold sedan was “road raging with a black Tesla” and driving 115-120 mph, a police booking affidavit said.
The Tesla driver told police the gold car drove into him “on purpose to push it off of the roadway,” according to the affidavit.
“The Tesla driver was attempting to get away from the gold sedan who started to follow him,” the affidavit states, quoting witnesses.
The Tesla driver admitted to driving over 100 mph while the gold sedan was tailing him, according to the affidavit.
The Tesla driver stated, “he was attempting to get away from the suspect vehicle. He stated he attempted to exit, wait a few minutes and get back on the freeway. He stated that after he got back on the freeway, the gold sedan was waiting for him,” according to the affidavit.
“The driver stated that the suspect intentionally tried to push into his lane and push him off of the roadway,” according to the affidavit.
As other vehicles attempted to pass the gold sedan, “the suspect vehicle pulled back in front of them, cutting them off and causing a near-miss accident,” according to the arrest report, which quoted witnesses.
Troopers pulled over the sedan and discovered its driver, Fayani, had a suspended license.
Authorities also located “two small baggies with residue of a white powdery substance, consistent with meth or cocaine or similar drug use” in the backseat of his car.
A “roller” for rolling joints with residue was also located in the car’s center console, according to the affidavit.
Fayani was booked into the Tooele County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault, reckless driving, and driving on a suspended license.
All of the counts come with road rage penalty enhancements if he is convicted.
Fayani was also arrested for investigation of possession of drug paraphernalia.
