The Dallas Cowboys had a rough season last year, earning them the no. 12 pick in this year’s NFL draft.
While injuries were largely to blame, they still have plenty of needs to fill, with one of their biggest being at wide receiver opposite star CeeDee Lamb.
Lamb is a versatile receiver who excels at all levels of the field, so while almost any receiver would serve as a good complement, a big-bodied perimeter receiver who can be a huge red-zone threat may be the best complement of them all.

That makes the Cowboys passing on top receiver prospect Tetairoa McMillan in the latest mock draft from Daniel Jeremiah, a highly respected draft analyst from NFL.com, shocking to say the least.
What makes the move even more shocking is they pass on him for a different receiver in combine darling Matthew Golden, a six-foot speedster out of Texas.
While Golden would be a great addition to the receiving core, taking him over McMillan seems like a surprising move.
McMillan’s draft stock does seem to be heading in the opposite direction of Golden’s however, so it is definitely possible this happens come draft night.
In Jeremiah’s mock, he has McMillan falling all the way to 22 to the Los Angeles Chargers, which would be a scary addition for an offense with Justin Herbert and Ladd McConkey running the show.
McMillan was at one point considered a consensus top 10 pick, but for unknown reasons, has started falling more and more in mock drafts.
For example, in Jeremiah’s mock draft 1.0, he had McMillan going eighth to the Carolina Panthers. In his mock draft 2.0, he had him going 19th to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and now he has McMillan going 22nd to the Chargers.
The reality is this year’s receiver class is nowhere near the level of the talent of last year’s historic class, which produced Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers, Brian Thomas Jr., and Ladd McConkey, all top receivers of their respective teams in their rookie seasons.
Unless there is more information on McMillan that the public doesn’t know, his fall in mock drafts as April draws nearer is a head-scratcher.
He is a massive receiver at 6 feet 5 inches with smooth movement and route-running. His athleticism could be a bit better, but his long strides and contested catch ability should make up for that in the NFL.
For the Cowboys, that seems like a difficult player to pass up, especially for a player in the same position who provides a completely different skill set.
