Danielle Fishel might be a dancing queen following her Dancing With the Stars season 34 debut, but Boy Meets World will always be in her heart.
“If we stick around long enough, we have something very, very special planned,” Fishel, 44, exclusively told Us Weekly on Tuesday, September 16, of her plan to do a Boy Meets World tribute on the ABC dance competition.
She teased, “We will tribute Boy Meets World in the most Boy Meets World way we can. We will also do the lipstick. We’re gonna have to incorporate the lipstick into a dance.”
Fishel — who played Topanga Lawrence on Boy Meets World from 1993 to 2000 — was referring to the ABC show’s iconic 1993 moment where Topanga did an alternative dance as Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) read the original “Donut in the Sky” poem.
During the season 1 episode, Topanga put red lipstick on her face, drawing a heart before making a crisscross over her nose and mouth. Fishel, for her part, recreated the dance and lipstick magic via an Instagram video in 2022 and is ready to bring it to DWTS.
When she does pay homage to her ‘90s sitcom past, Fishel will have her loved ones cheering her on — as well as a few Boy Meets World costars.
In fact, the actress’ cheering section for the DWTS season premiere on Tuesday included Rider Strong, who played Shawn Hunter, and Will Friedle, who portrayed Eric Matthews, on the ABC show. The duo are also Fishel’s cohosts on the “Pod Meets World” podcast.
“These are like three of my best friends,” Fishel told Us of her supporters, which also included longtime pal Lance Bass. “Of course, my mom, my dad, my dad’s wife, my husband, my kids. It was so cute to see them in their little suits, gathering confetti off the floor, growing in the air and running.”
On Tuesday, Fishel made her DWTS debut alongside dance partner Pasha Pashkov. The pair performed a tango to Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You),” earning a score of 12 out of 20.
“Honestly, the scores are good … especially week one,” Pashkov, 39, told Us on Tuesday, noting he was more interested to see how Fishel did “under pressure.”
The pro dancer revealed that the actress “delivered” and had her “best run” of the routine during the live show. “So for me, I’m like, ‘Yes, we’re ready. We’re ready for this competition. Let’s go!’” Pashkov added.
With a double elimination looming, Fishel told Us she’s very “nervous,” adding that no matter who goes home, “we’ll all be sad.”
Dancing With the Stars airs on ABC and Disney+ Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
