It’s been an extremely busy week for Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders.

Despite undergoing surgery earlier this week for blood clots in his leg, he still managed to lead his team to its biggest win since his very first game at the university against TCU in 2023.

Sanders revealed postgame last week that the blood clots were causing him significant pain. Remarkably, he didn’t miss a single practice throughout the week, and on Saturday, the Buffaloes defeated the No. 22-ranked Iowa State Cyclones 24-17 to earn their third win of the season.

Following the game, Buffaloes fans stormed Folsom Field in celebration, prompting a fiery and passionate message from Sanders.

“Thank God for that sellout crowd,” Sanders said. “It’s one of the most beautiful things you’ll ever see—looking behind our bench and across the field to see over 50,000 radically passionate fans. I love these kids and these adults, and everybody in this fan base to life.”

Sanders has been at the forefront of transforming the culture of Colorado football in Boulder.

Following several key departures after last season, including his son Shedeur Sanders and 2024 Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, the team has had to rebuild somewhat. While they remained competitive in the early weeks, Saturday’s win was by far their best performance.

The Buffaloes were led by quarterback Kaidon Salter, who completed 16 of 25 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing nine times for 57 yards.

Colorado will now enjoy a bye week before facing another major challenge on the road against the Utah Utes on Oct. 25. The Buffaloes will aim to overcome this next hurdle as they pursue six wins and bowl eligibility for the season.
