Drew Allar and the Penn State Nittany Lions entered this week’s game against Northwestern hoping to turn the page after last week’s ugly loss to the UCLA Bruins. After losing two straight games, Penn State needed a win to keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive.

Unfortunately, the win did not come. Instead, the Nittany Lions ended up losing to Northwestern by a final score of 22-21.

Not only did Penn State lose a game that it should have won, Allar went down with a season-ending injury to his leg. With that news being announced, the Nittany Lions’ playoff hopes are dead in the water.

Former Ohio State HC Urban Meyer Linked to Big Ten Coaching Job

Looking ahead to the future, Allar will be heading into the 2026 NFL Draft with a completely unknown future. Following the injury, his draft stock could suffer immensely.

While the injury was terrible and he will have to work his way back and hope for good luck in the draft, Allar has received some good news from a notable sports doctor.

Jesse Morse, a sports doctor who has actively commented on injuries across all sports, has shared that most quarterbacks will not deal with long-term issues from an injury like the one Allar suffered.

“Appears to be a left ankle fracture, possible dislocation, that occurred on this play,” Morse wrote on X. “It’s been confirmed that his season is over. Depending on the specifics of the injury, most quarterbacks will have no long-term ramifications of this injury.”

Obviously, that doesn’t help the Nittany Lions, but it’s good news for Allar. He still has a bright future ahead of him despite suffering through an incredibly disappointing season to end his tenure at Penn State.

In the six games he played this season for the Nittany Lions, Allar threw for 1,100 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions. Those clearly weren’t Heisman caliber numbers, but they weren’t shabby either. He has a good chance to be a mid-round draft pick or possibly higher depending on how he fares prior to the draft.

Hopefully, he’s able to make a quick and full recovery. More details are sure to be made available about his injury and recovery timeline in the near future.

As for Penn State, the team will likely turn to sophomore Ethan Grunkemeyer. Next up for the Nittany Lions will be a tough road matchup against the Iowa Hawkeyes in a week’s time.
