The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched a date in the World Series against the New York Yankees on Sunday, and ticket prices are already soaring.

With fans hoping to catch a glimpse of a championship matchup 43 years in the making, tickets for Game 1 on the second-hand market were unavailable for less than $1,000.

Second-hand retailer SeatGeek listed the cheapest ticket for Game 1 of the World Series on Friday at Dodger Stadium at $1,085 within an hour of the Dodgers’ clinching victory over the New York Mets. For Game 2 on Saturday, tickets on SeatGeek began at $1,211.

The series will shift back to New York for Game 3 on Oct. 28 at Yankee Stadium. SeatGeek is listing the cheapest tickets at $1,095; for Game 4 on Oct. 29, the cheapest ticket is $1,000.

If the series goes to Game 5, it will be at Yankee Stadium on Oct. 30. The lowest-cost ticket for that game is $1,050. The series will then shift back to Los Angeles for Games 6 and 7 if necessary.

The lowest cost for those tickets: $1,259 for Game 6 on Nov. 1, and $1,358 for Game 7 on Nov. 2.

Fans who took to social media Sunday night to share their reactions were predictably shocked by what they saw.

The so-called nosebleed seats were not the only expensive tickets in town. On Friday, NBC San Diego reported tickets behind home plate at Dodger Stadium were selling for $15,000 to $20,000.

Thursday, the Dodgers put a limited number of World Series tickets on sale on their website starting at $828. Those tickets sold out in 90 minutes, according to Arash Markazi of The Sporting Tribune.

Los Angeles will appear in the World Series for the fourth time in the last eight seasons, but not since their championship in the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season. New York hasn’t been to — or won — a World Series since 2009.

On Sunday, the Dodgers beat the Mets 10-5 in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series. Afterward, they celebrated a pennant-clinching victory on their home field for the first time since 1988. That year, they also beat the New York Mets en route to a World Series victory over the Oakland A’s.

The Dodgers’ win Sunday coincided with the 36th anniversary of their championship-clinching win over the A’s.

The Dodgers and Yankees have played each other in the World Series on 12 occasions. From 1941-81, the teams met each other 11 times for the championship, but their reigns of success have never lined up since.
