Things have been tough for the Miami Dolphins, who are currently 1-3 after four weeks of the regular season. The team lost starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa during Week 2 when he suffered a concerning concussion against the Buffalo Bills.

Tagovailoa ran into safety Damar Hamlin head-first and suffered his third official concussion in the NFL. The Dolphins decided to place the quarterback on IR, sidelining him at least until Week 8. Despite droves of fans, pundits, and more stating Tagovailoa should retire, he made it very clear he plans to play again.
The Dolphins then allowed backup quarterback Skylar Thompson to play in Week 3. Thompson was hammered by the Seattle Seahawks defense, resulting in him being injured. Third-string quarterback Tom Boyle stepped into the game, but couldn’t string together any sort of offensive attack.
Now, Boyle has surprisingly been released.

Boyle might more than likely revert to the practice squad to be elevated as a third emergency quarterback, but it’s odd the Dolphins are doing this when Thompson is still hurt.
The Dolphins did sign Tyler “Snoop” Huntley from the Baltimore Ravens practice squad and allow him to start during Week 4, but Miami was still not its normal dynamic offensive self. Head coach Mike McDaniel stated that “everything” was on the table in terms of what needed to be changed, and it will be interesting to see what that could mean for Week 5.
As it stands, the Dolphins currently have one healthy quarterback on the roster: Huntley. Thompson is officially questionable after hurting his ribs in Week 3, and Boyle has been released.
The move might also mean the Dolphins have gone out and signed a player that could help them in another position, though it is more likely Boyle will head back to the practice squad.
The Dolphins need a spark on offense, and none of their current quarterbacks has been able to provide that. To be fair, Huntley only got one week of practice before he was thrown into the starting role, so he might fare much better in Week 5.

Miami will take on the New England Patriots next, and their AFC East rivals are also not looking like that great of a team. A win for the Dolphins might provide the much-needed confidence the team needs to carry itself to a record over .500 while they wait for Tagovailoa to return.
Either way, Boyle is now set to look for another job or be resigned from the Dolphins’ practice squad.
