President Donald Trump has welcomed a decision made on Thursday by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which allows him to maintain control of California National Guard troops he dispatched to Los Angeles following unrest, against the wishes of the state’s governor, Gavin Newsom.
In a post on his Truth Social website Trump said: “The Appeals Court ruled last night that I can use the National Guard to keep our cities, in this case Los Angeles, safe. If I didn’t send the Military into Los Angeles, that city would be burning to the ground right now. We saved L.A. Thank you for the Decision!!!”
Earlier on Thursday U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer ruled against Trump’s move to take control of California National Guard troops and instructed the president to return them to Newsom’s control. However just hours later the Circuit Court of Appeal temporarily blocked this judgement whilst the case receives further consideration.
