President Donald Trump broke his day-long silence after bipartisan backlash erupted on Friday after his social media post featuring former President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, as apes in a jungle.
The president was asked about the since-deleted post on Air Force One as he traveled from the White House to Mar-a-lago.
A reporter asked Trump, “The White House says a staffer sent that video. Are you going to fire the staffer?”
The president responded, in part, “No. I looked at it. I didn’t see the whole thing. I gave it to the people, they posted it.”
Trump was then asked if he was going to apologize. He replied, in part, “No, I didn’t make a mistake. I mean, I look at a lot of thousands of things and I looked at the beginning of it. It was fine … It was a take off on the Lion King.”
