On Sunday, Feb. 8, Super Bowl LX finally kicked off at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, and the Seattle Seahawks proved to be a challenge for Drake Maye the New England Patriots.

Maye and the Patriots struggled on offense during the first half of the game and got zero points on the board. But, the good news for the Patriots is that their defense was strong and held the Seahawks to a field goal half, with just nine points on the board from three field goals.

During the game, the New England Patriots took to social media to show off their best plays of the half, but the posts were met with mixed reviews. Maye ended up being the subject of debate from commenters, with some saying he was performing badly and others saying it wasn’t his fault and that it, instead, it was because of the surrounding players.

“Drake Maye is really doing what he can,” one follower said. “Maye is mentally frozen with fear,” another said disagreeing. “Mills reaching over the top to drag Maye down—veteran move from a rookie! Seahawks defense suffocating in SB LX,” one more added.

“This offense bro. I’m so sorry defense man this offense isn’t performing at all man,” another stated.

So, fans are debating over whether Maye is to blame for the difficult first half, but what’s not up for debate is that it was a tough first half for those on the side of the New England Patriots.

After beating the Denver Broncos on Sunday, Jan. 25, to advance to the Super Bowl with a 10-7 final score, Maye commented on what it meant to him to get there at 23 years old

“Full circle. My dad, when I was maybe in seventh grade, said if the Panthers made it we were going to go,” he told reporters. “It was heartbreaking they lost to the Broncos. But what an experience for a kid at my age who loves football, loves quarterbacks.”

He added, “It was Peyton’s last game and what a Hall of Fame career he’s had. Pretty cool to be full circle going back here 10 years later. It’s just a special moment for this whole team. Just going to enjoy tonight and head back. We’ve got two weeks so we’ve got some work to do, but looking forward to seeing whoever we play.”

Maye added that he got banged up in the AFC Championship game but wasn’t worried about it.

“I think some bumps and bruises, but that’s what it takes. A lot of guys in that locker room are battling through things,” Maye said during his press conference. “At the same time, the best thing about it is we get another chance at it. Another chance at it to get healthy.”

He added, “Two weeks, and we’ll go into some nicer weather, knock on some wood, we’ll see. But we have a chance to go win the Super Bowl. That’s what it is. It’s pretty cool.”
