ICE has arrested an illegal immigrant who caused a fatal crash in Minnesota in 2024 when he blew through a stop sign while watching a YouTube video on his iPad about learning English.

Georgii Gabiev, a criminal illegal migrant from Russia who entered the US in 2022 and was released by the Biden administration, killed truck driver Tim Tarnowski on March 5, 2024, on a rural road in Chippewa County.

He pleaded guilty to criminal vehicular manslaughter but served just 120 days in jail. He told law enforcement that at the time of the crash, he “was listening to a program” on an iPad that was “teaching him how to speak English,” the Star Tribune reported.

ICE law enforcement officers arrested Gabiev in Brooklyn on June 9, and will keep him in custody pending his removal from the US.

“Although Tim will never be brought back, Gabiev’s capture will bring the justice deserved,” said Tammy Tarnowski, Tim’s widow, who was personally informed of the arrest by DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin.

“Our family now has closure and we can begin the healing process needed to move forward. Our hope is that this will bring light to Angel Families and will save others from going through the heartache we have endured.”

Gabiev told law enforcement that at the time of the crash, “he was listening to a program on an iPad that was teaching him how to speak English. … He claimed to not have been looking at the iPad when he was driving.”

Mullin said Gabiev “had no business” being in the US, or on America’s roadways, in the first place.

“If it weren’t for the Biden administration’s open border policies, this tragedy would never have happened, and Tim would still be alive. This is our why. President Trump and I will never stop fighting for justice for Angel Families,” Mullin said, referencing a collective of individuals who have lost loved ones at the hands of illegal immigrants.
