A federal special agent shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself in a shocking murder-suicide at their New Jersey home, officials said.

Kelly Iatauro, 46,  was found shot dead inside of their Sayreville home on Friday night and her husband, Christopher Iatauro, 52, was found dead in the backyard from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The death is being investigated as a murder-suicide with Christopher the suspected shooter, the prosecutor’s office confirmed in a statement. It was unclear what led to the bloodbath.

Christopher Iatauro worked as a special agent for the Department of Homeland Security, according to records from 2019 and 2020 obtained by local outlet NJ101.5.

Sayreville police responded to the home on Glynn Court around 8 p.m. Friday and told all residents in the area to remain inside as they responded, closing down part of the street for at least 40 minutes.

Kelly’s sister-in-law posted a heartbreaking tribute on social media while announcing her funeral services.

“As many of you may now know, my beautiful sister-in-law, Kelly Iatauro  was senselessly and suddenly taken from us on Friday,” she wrote on Facebook.

“Kelly was a bright light- kind, thoughtful, hysterical, inappropriate, and just one of the most amazing people I’ve ever known. She left a lasting impression on anyone that was lucky enough to know her.”

DHS did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
