Colombia’s Foreign Minister Rosa Villavicencio said Monday she renounced her U.S. visa in protest after the U.S. State Department revoked President Gustavo Petro’s visa, the Colombian government said.

The move deepens a diplomatic rift with Washington over disputes that include drug policy, the war in Gaza and a U.S. naval buildup near Venezuela.

The State Department said it canceled Petro’s visa after he joined a pro-Palestinian protest in New York and urged U.S. soldiers to “disobey” President Donald Trump, calling his actions “reckless and incendiary.”

Colombia’s foreign ministry said it would not accept “diplomatic visas that limit opinions” and declined to specify what type of visa Villavicencio held.
