Dilson Herrera, who debuted with the New York Mets in 2014 and spent parts of four seasons in Major League Baseball, announced his retirement in a post to his Instagram account.

“After many years of dedication, sacrifice, and passion, I have decided to officially retire as a professional baseball player,” Herrera wrote in Spanish.

“Baseball has given me everything, and today I remain connected to this sport with the same love and respect as always,” Herrera added.

Herrera played 105 games for the Mets (2014-15), Cincinnati Reds (2018) and Baltimore Orioles (2020) in his major league career. He retires with a .199 batting average, 11 home runs and 28 RBIs.

A highly regarded prospect with the Mets in the early 2010s, Herrera competed in the MLB Futures Game in 2013 and 2016. He was the youngest player in MLB when he debuted in August 2014, but was eventually surpassed on the depth chart as the Mets reached the World Series in 2015 and never appeared in a postseason game.

Herrera continued his career abroad after being released by the Toronto Blue Jays in August 2021.

In 2025, Herrera played in his native Colombia as well as Mexico before calling it a career.
