The 2028 Olympics will occur in Los Angeles, California, and feature the debut of several sports events, including the first-ever flag football competition at the games.
That news arrived months ago, with indications that former and current NFL stars would likely participate in a chance to win a medal in a less physical version of their preferred sport. Just recently, Tom Brady was part of a highly promoted game in Los Angeles at BMO Stadium.
The Fanatics Flag Football Classic featured NFL players, including Brady, his former teammate Robert Gronkowski, and free agents such as Stefon Diggs and DeAndre Hopkins. Odell Beckham Jr., Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, Von Miller, and social media influencer/WWE star Logan Paul were also among the participants.
Two teams consisting of NFL stars and other athletes were part of a round robin tournament. The third team was the United States men’s national flag football team, which dominated the event due to its team chemistry compared to the showboating and shenanigans of the other teams.

While that may not have been a significant viewing experience for many, the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles will be. On Saturday, former Heisman Trophy winner and retired NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III revealed his intention to “go for gold” at the event.
“Proud and Honored to announce that I will be going for Gold in Flag Football with the USA National Team in 2028. The journey starts now and there is no greater honor than wearing USA across your chest and representing something more than yourself. USA! USA! USA!” RG3 wrote in a message shared by his X (formerly Twitter) account.
In a previous message, the former Baltimore Ravens, Washington Commanders, and Cleveland Browns QB mentioned a player would need to be “entrenched” in the “world of flag football” for the next two years to participate at such a high level.
Along with that, RG3 praised Odell Beckham Jr., who is no longer playing in the NFL, but looked like he should be, based on highlights from Brady’s Flag Football Classic this weekend.
The 48-year-old Brady, who officially retired several seasons ago, looked sharp in his return to passing on a football field, achieving highlight plays, which included a throw to former New England Patriots star Stefon Diggs for a touchdown. He also watched as teammate Rob Gronkowski scored a two-point conversion.
In the game, which may have been to showcase flag football in anticipation of the Olympics, Team USA Football defeated Brady’s team, 43-16.
Despite the legendary QB’s ability to still throw and do so exceptionally well, Brady seemed to douse the flames of any hot rumors that he might participate in the 2028 Olympics.
During a “Good Morning America” interview, the seven-time Super Bowl winner indicated he was happier with his off-field ventures, including working as a Fox Sports NFL analyst and commentator as well as being a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders.
While RG3 doesn’t bring quite the resume that Brady might, he still won the Heisman Trophy in 2011 while playing QB for Baylor. Beginning in 2012, Griffin spent eight years in the NFL with three different teams, throwing for 9,271 yards and 43 touchdowns, in addition to rushing for over 1,800 yards and 10 TDs on the ground.
Griffin has since been podcasting and making appearances on Fox Sports as one of their personalities and analysts, giving insight on football topics.
