The Chicago Bears suffered a shocking Week 1 loss, blowing a 17-6 fourth quarter lead at home against the division rival Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football.
Caleb Williams and the Bears offense had a great first drive, but struggled to produce points under first-year head coach Ben Johnson the rest of the way.
With the Bears trailing by as many as 10 points late in the game, former USC star long snapper Jake Olson sent a message to Williams on social media.
Olson liked what he saw out of Williams, but also thinks he should stop wearing the nail polish that has placed him in tons of headlines.
“Caleb starting 10/10 tells me Ben Johnson’s coaching is working,” Olson wrote on X. “He’s got a lot to learn, but I think Johnson can teach him. The real question is whether Bears fans have the patience. In the meantime… maybe skip the nail polish, QB1.”

Williams has become famous for wearing custom nail polish in games ever since he was in college. Sometimes the nail polish is colors, while other times it sends a message. On Monday night, it was in regards to suicide prevention. Whatever the case, it has become a talking point before and after games.
Olson, who spent four years at USC as a backup long snapper, is a Trojan and college football legend after becoming the first completely blind player in NCAA Division I history when he suited up for USC.
He’s as big a supporter of USC as anyone, always rooting for the Trojans both in college and the NFL. He also calls things as he sees them.
As for Williams, he got off to a hot start on Monday, completing 10 straight passes as he appeared very comfortable under Johnson’s new offense. However, Williams then completed 11 of his next 24 passes, while Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy led his team to an impressive Week 1 road comeback.
The Bears will have to regroup quickly as they have a short week before taking on Johnson’s former team, the Detroit Lions, on the road in Week 2. While Johnson and the Bears obviously want to win every game, it’s safe to assume this one will carry a little more weight for Johnson, who spent the last three years as the Lions’ offensive coordinator and the last six overall in various organizational roles.
The Lions are also coming off a disappointing Week 1 performance, having gotten crushed, 27-13, by the Green Bay Packers.
