James Comer, the Chairman for the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, issued a subpoena for Ghislaine Maxwell Wednesday, according to a press release from his office.

The subpoena came on the same day a Florida judge denied a request by President Donald Trump’s administration to unseal transcripts from the grand jury testimony.

Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year sentence after being convicted of sex trafficking in connection with the Jeffrey Epstein case in 2021.

Epstein, a disgraced financier and convicted sex offender, died by suicide behind bars while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges in 2019, leaving many questions unanswered.

The call for files in his case has been louder than ever following reports of Trumps ties to Epstein.

The motion for the subpoena was approved by a voice vote Tuesday, according to the chairman’s press release.

Officials released the leader they sent to Maxwell for the subpoena, which read in part, “The facts and circumstances surrounding both your and Mr. Epstein’s cases have received immense public interest and scrutiny.”

“While the Justice Department undertakes efforts to uncover and publicly disclose additional information related to your and Mr. Epstein’s cases, it is imperative that Congress conduct oversight of the federal government’s enforcement of sex trafficking laws generally and specifically its handling of the investigation and prosecution of you and Mr. Epstein,” the letter continued.

“In particular, the Committee seeks your testimony to inform the consideration of potential legislative solutions to improve federal efforts to combat sex trafficking and reform the use of non-prosecution agreements and/or plea agreements in sex-crime investigations,” Comer concluded in the letter.
