The New York Giants appear to be trending in the right direction after hiring John Harbaugh to lead the franchise. The Giants have made moves this offseason and hold a potentially franchise-changing power with the No. 5 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
However, not everybody is on board yet. On Monday, Giants’ three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence requested a trade from the team, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The request comes amidst stalled contract negotiations that have been in progress for the past two years.
Lawrence still has two more years on his current contract and is set to make $20 million this season. After making three Pro Bowls and a pair of second-team All-Pro nominations, Lawrence has established himself as one of the best interior defensive linemen in the NFL. Still, there has not been any progress toward a deal, according to Schefter.
Schefter reports that Lawrence is not expected to report to the team’s offseason workout program, which begins on Tuesday. He would forfeit a $500,000 bonus if he did not show up for the workouts.
A first-round pick in 2019, Lawrence has 30.5 sacks in his career. 2025 as a down year, as he only managed half a sack last season, but he has been a dominant pass rusher and run stuffer for the Giants throughout his seven years in New York.

Lawrence signed a four-year, $90 million extension in 2023, but the Giants have done a lot of losing on the field and lost several star players to free agency since then.
Lawrence could be the next one out the door with a new coaching staff in place, and it’s worth watching to see if the Giants find a way to trade Lawrence before the NFL Draft later this month.
