After an 0-3 start to the 2025 NFL season, the New York Giants were facing major pressure to make a change. Most notably, they were facing pressure to bench veteran quarterback Russell Wilson and turn over the keys of the franchise to rookie signal caller Jaxson Dart.

On Tuesday, that is exactly what head coach Brian Daboll decided to do.

Dart has now been named the starter for the team’s Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers at home. He’ll be facing a Chargers team that is currently 3-0 and looks to be a legitimate contender in the AFC.

As for Wilson, questions about the future are running rampant. Will the Giants keep Wilson on the roster or could they consider trading him before the deadline? The answer to those questions is unknown.

With that being said, Wilson took to his Instagram stories to share a message following the news of him being benched. He shared a verse from the Bible, specifically from Ephesians 3.

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”

What exactly that means is only known to Wilson. But, he is clearly leaning into his faith during this disappointing time for his career.

Throughout the first three games of the 2025 season, Wilson struggled in two outings and was dominant in another. He completed 59.1 percent of his pass attempts for 778 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. Wilson also ran for 94 yards, but did not score a touchdown on the ground.

At 36 years old, the questions about the future will be interesting to find out the answers to. Wilson could very well become a trade candidate. There are a few teams around the NFL who could use an upgrade at the quarterback position.

It’s also possible that New York will simply keep Wilson on the roster to mentor Dart. He still holds a wealth of knowledge and experience in the NFL. That could be valuable to the rookie signal caller.

Only time will tell, but the change has officially been made. The Giants will no longer start Wilson under center. Dart is the new face of the franchise in New York.
