‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Reviews Are Overwhelmingly One-Sided

“Happy Gilmore 2” is officially streaming on Netflix, and the sequel comedy, 30 years in the making, is making waves online. Reportedly jam-packed with tons of cameos, the new comedy brings back Adam Sandler to one of his most iconic roles.

Most of the time, comedies that are revisited 30 years or more after they were made don’t typically go over well. There have been a lot of reviewers who were pleasantly surprised by the sequel, but there are also a lot that also point to the film’s many flaws.

Despite the negative reviews, the positive reviews seem to overwhelmingly outweigh those who are pointing to steep nostalgia bait.

Movies that matter states: “#HappyGilmore2 is classic Sandler again! These comedy’s seemed extinct in Hollywood but Sandler & his team are single handedly keeping them alive. I had a great time with a sequel that I never expected to recapture the glory of the original & it didn’t but that’s ok! It’s fun, it put me in a good mood & the cameos are so funny. Ben Stiller, Eminem shine in small roles but boy are they hilarious. Lots of more cameos too but Adam Sandler still proving he’s a comedy genius. LOVED IT.”

TJ Kennedy reveals the nostalgia bat was not that great by stating: “Happy Gilmore 2. Sadly not as good as the original but had some chuckles. John Daly, Will Zalatoris and Scottie Scheffler absolutely killed it, they were hilarious. But tbh, they probably should have left it alone… it felt like a lot of nostalgia and not much depth.”

Despite some negative outliers, Peter Brown begins the slew of positive reviews with:

“I am so very pleased to report that #HappyGilmore2 doesn’t suck and is genuinely funny with a lot of heart. It’s not on par with the original but only being a few strokes behind after three decades away is honestly a gigantic win for modern feature length comedies.”

Dove’s Movie Reviews says: “#HappyGilmore2 is a near-perfect sequel that expands upon everything the original setup. It was the sequel I didn’t know I wanted but needed. Lots of laughs all throughout. One of the best first acts I’ve seen to a movie this year. It’s not perfect but it works in the best ways.”

The Hollywood Reporter starts negative, but reveals that fans of the original will love “Happy Gilmore 2” for multiple reasons.

Shreesh states: “#HappyGilmore2 was a ton of fun.Very silly,completely unserious and absolutely enjoyable.The entire cast plus a bunch of cameos were awesome.Adam Sandler was great,the same silly angry man,now tackling midlife crisis.McDonald was hilarious and Ben Stiller was crazy.Dumb fun time!”

There are plenty of people that don’t particularly care for films that rely on reused bits and nostalgia, but it appears the sillyness of Adam Sandler has come through again in a big way.
