Hayden Christensen might have played one of the most infamous fathers in movie history, but he’s also a real-life dad to a tween of his own — who looks just like her mom!
On Friday, August 15, Christensen, 44, stepped out at a Chicago Cubs game with Briar Rose Christensen, his daughter with ex Rachel Bilson. The duo were on hand to sing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the game’s 7th-inning stretch.
The father and daughter pair — and the crowd — were interrupted by a jet that flew overhead and released blue smoke, a moment the Major League Baseball social media team took advantage of when they shared a video from the performance.
“Gives ‘I couldn’t find a speeder that I really liked’ a whole new meaning 😂,” the league captioned a video shared via Instagram Saturday, August 16, a pointed reference to Star Wars (in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker uses the line to explain why he was late to pick up Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi). “Hayden Christensen and his daughter sang ‘Take Me Out to the Ballgame’ at the Cubs game and had their own special (unplanned) flyover 🤣.”
In the video it’s clear the pair were interrupted at the very beginning of the song, but good-naturedly didn’t let that slow them down as they continued to belt out the perennial hit. Hayden remains focused on Briar, 10, who is determinedly focused on completing their mission.
Hayden also threw the first pitch of the game.
The appearance was a rare one for Briar, who was born in October 2014.
“Hayden Christensen and Rachel Bilson welcomed their daughter Briar Rose Christensen born on October 29, 2014,” Bilson’s rep told Us in a statement at the time. “Both mother and baby are healthy and doing well. They are asking for privacy and subscribe to the No Kids Policy.”
Bilson and Hayden ended their 10-year relationship three years later in September 2017, but have made a concerted effort to be coparents since. In October 2019 they joined forces to take Briar to Disneyland for her 5th birthday, and in 2021 Bilson opened up about how they navigated the COVID-19 pandemic as coparents who didn’t live together.
During an April 2021 appearance on the “Betches Mom” podcast, Bilson explained, “Luckily, [he] is pretty hardcore with [the COVID restrictions].”
“He’s actually been in Canada for a bit, so that’s pretty safe knowing she’s not seeing him. That’s not a worry,” Bilson continued, “We’ve just handled it. Survival mode.”
