Heather Rae El Moussa isn’t ruling out an official Selling Sunset return after making a cameo in the upcoming season.

“If I was to ever go back, it would be with Selling Sunset [and not Selling the OC] — just because that was my group,” Heather, 37, exclusively told Us Weekly while promoting a new PETA campaign that features her and husband Tarek El Moussa‘s 2-year-old son, Tristan. “We were all an office and friends before Selling Sunset was even a show.”

While the reality star lives in the OC, she detailed her bond with the cast of the OG show, adding, “I have a rapport with them, I have loyalty with them and I have a lot of history with them. So if I want to go back, it would be Selling Sunset and not Selling the OC.”

Heather was with the Oppenheim Group before Netflix began to feature the company on Selling Sunset in 2019. The show became an overnight success with Heather, Chrishell Stause, Mary Bonnet, Jason Oppenheim, Brett Oppenheim, Maya Vander and Christine Quinn as part of the original cast.

Like Heather, Maya, 43, and Christine, 36 moved on from their time at the O Group. Amanza Smith, Emma Hernan, Chelsea Lazkani, Nicole Young and Bre Tiesi were brought on to expand the cast over the years.

“It’s almost not as difficult [to watch the show now],” Heather noted. “Because I’m not part of it, I get to watch from the sidelines as a fan as opposed to being in it. But I might make a cameo in this coming season. So you have to stay tuned.”

Selling Sunset season 9 is set to premiere on October 25. After teasing her appearance, Heather hinted that this could be just the beginning. “We’ll see. Let’s get the fans asking for it,” she quipped. “Maybe I’ll come back.”

Heather’s departure from Selling Sunset allowed her to devote more time to her and Tarek’s HGTV shows — including The Flip Off, Flipping 101 and The Flipping El Moussas. The network has recently made headlines for cancelling five shows: Battle on the Beach, Farmhouse Fixer, Married to Real Estate, Bargain Block and Izzy Does It.

While the network hasn’t publicly addressed whether there will be more cuts, a source exclusively told Us this month that Tarek, 43, and Heather’s Flipping El Moussas is “not coming back” to HGTV. The same goes for Tarek’s ex-wife Christina Haack’s series Christina on the Coast, which has also “not been renewed.”

According to a second insider, the trio’s The Flip Off is meant to be “back for a second season, but there is no filming date or air date yet.”

“Obviously, I do know they are going through big internal changes, so I’m not quite sure what’s going on there,” Heather told Us. “I don’t have a statement for that, but I can say how much I’ve enjoyed being on HGTV. I love filming The Flip Off and Flipping El Moussas and I love flipping houses. But I don’t know internally what’s going on.”

Heather clarified that she doesn’t “have any news” about the future of her HGTV shows.

“Anything could happen. To be honest, it was a great show and it still is a great show,” Heather told Us about whether The Flipping El Moussas could come back in the future. “I know that the fans loved it, and Tarek and I really, really enjoyed filming that show. It’s definitely a challenging market right now — and with real estate in general. But I think anything could happen.”

She continued: “There’s so many other shows that I would love to do. I would love to get into hosting and I’m definitely open to [new opportunities]. I’ve been on TV for many, many years. I modeled, I shot some commercials and there’s a lot to me that I would love to tap into.”

For now, Heather is focused on opportunities such as filming a new PETA campaign with her son to encourage families to dump dairy in favor of delicious vegan cheeses. The sweet video shared by PETA showed Heather trying the different vegan options after having fun with Tristan on set.

“Tristan is super comfortable in front of the camera. He has been on camera since he was in my belly. So he is really used to being on camera in front of pictures and he’s used to being around a lot of people because we had the crew in our house since he was born,” she told Us. “He loved it and he did so good. It was so cute.”

Heather loved the chance to work with PETA again — this time to promote the organization’s free Empathy Kits for people who need a lesson in kindness and free vegan starter kits for anyone thinking of making the switch.

“I did a campaign with PETA around my engagement and having this one be with Tristan was just really special,” she added. “I think a lot of people are scared to go vegan because they don’t know how to eat and they don’t even know where to begin. So I like spreading awareness.”

Heather concluded: “But it’s not as challenging and difficult as people may think. We’re doing good for the environment and we’re doing good for animals. There’s a lot of really great dairy and meat alternatives out there and I think people just aren’t aware.”

Selling Sunset is currently streaming on Netflix.
