A mom has been slammed for ordering a boob cake for her son’s 3rd birthday to help him give up breastfeeding.

Genie Kaur, 39, got the novelty iced Victoria Sponge – featuring a blue starry bikini – made for her son Kamron’s birthday party.

The mom-of-two posted pictures of the dessert on Instagram and was stunned when it went viral with thousands of people sharing the images.

While many people supported her choice of cake, she says she was “shocked” by other comments accusing her of being “inappropriate”.

Genie, from Barton Seagrave, Northants., has defended the cake, explaining it was intended as a light-hearted way of helping “wean” her son.

She said: “It was to celebrate and maybe wean him off.

“I posted a picture of the cake on Instagram and Facebook and I was quite shocked by the responses.

“Lots of people were critical, not just of the cake but also because I was breastfeeding a three-year-old.”

Genie, and husband Ronni, 43, presented the cake to Kamron at his party on May 4.

Genie, a housing officer, said: “It was going to be the last time [breastfeeding] on his birthday, as soon as he cut the cake, sort of like the last supper.

“We explained it was the last time, but instead of him being happy, he was sad. He was very vocal saying he wanted his ‘booba’.”

Despite the social media backlash, Genie has decided to carry on breastfeeding Kamron “until we are both ready to stop”.

She added: “Breastfeeding is working for me so what’s everyone’s problem? There’s so much pressure from society to stop.

“Nobody has ever said ‘carry on’, I’m feeling I have to justify it.

“Breasts are sexualized. This is for the comfort of my son. You can make it a beautiful weaning journey and we meet each other’s needs.

“I had intended to stop breastfeeding but since the debate started on social media I’ve decided to carry on until we are both ready to stop.

“I’ve done lots of research and breastfeeding at this age is really good for them. Why should I bow to society’s pressures?

“It’s baby-led feeding and he’s not ready to give up and I don’t think I am. I never planned this. I haven’t put any pressure on myself.

“I’m quite modest with it. I cover myself up – and it’s still ‘not acceptable’.

“What’s everyone’s problem with it? You’re under so much pressure from society, the support isn’t there. People say it’s not natural – but it is.”

The couple paid $120 for the dessert from The Cake Story in Kettering, Northants., and say they told parents of other children attending the party about the saucy design beforehand.

Genie says her husband, a director of a distribution firm, supports her choice to carry on breastfeeding their son.

She said: “He said ‘If I had boobs I would do it. I’m proud of you.’ He’s all for it.”

Genie, who also has four-year-old daughter Gianna, said: “When she sees him, she tries to stop him but we say it’s ok, it’s natural and normal.”

She has now decided to use the controversy to inform other moms about the benefits of breastfeeding their children.

She said: “I would say to all mums, don’t give up. Don’t let people tell you what to do. If you are not ready to give up – don’t.

“I want to reach out to mums and I want to be a spokesperson for breastfeeding toddlers.”

The World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding children up to two years and beyond.
