Heart-pounding video captures the moment a hero NYPD detective on the way to work saved a choking baby on the side of a highway in the middle of rush-hour traffic.
Det. First Grade Michael Greaney, who works in the office of Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, was heading to the office around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday when he spotted a black BMW speeding along the emergency shoulder lane of the southbound Bronx River Parkway, cops said.
Greaney, who was driving an unmarked truck, flicked his lights on and pulled over to see what was going on, according to cops and the footage, which was posted to TikTok.
The driver turned out to be a panic-stricken dad who told the detective, “My baby’s choking,” police said.
Greaney reached into the car, picked up the pint-sized girl wearing a pink onesie, and repeatedly banged on her back while holding her on the side of the road.
The tot’s throat was quickly cleared and she started to breathe again, authorities said.
A good Samaritan pediatrician spotted the commotion, checked on the baby and confirmed she was OK, police said.
The dad drove off and later confirmed to police that the baby girl was doing well.
Greaney is a 17-year department veteran who joined the NYPD in July of 2008, records show.
