A mother has left internet users in hysterics after discovering what her toddler has been telling people about her weekly routine.
TikTok user @emjanecourt shared a now-viral clip capturing the moment she realized her 2-year-old had been “spreading rumors” about her lifestyle. Sitting in the front seat of her car, the mom discovered that her toddler has been telling others that she goes to “parties” three times a week.
While that may sound like an enviable social calendar for any parent, the reality couldn’t be further from that. As the mom quickly clarified, the so-called “parties” are actually her regular Pilates classes.
Still, the misunderstanding clearly took on a life of its own. In the video, @emjanecourt jokes that her child has been telling everyone “that mummy parties three times a week,” prompting laughter from viewers who could relate to the creative interpretations of toddlers.
The clip, which was shared on March 3, has since amassed more than 711,000 views and over 112,000 likes at the time of writing.

While the mix-up is amusing, child development experts say it is also entirely typical behavior for a 2-year-old. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that most children at this age are beginning to combine words into short phrases and frequently repeat words they overhear in conversation, even if they don’t fully understand their meaning.
The American Academy of Pediatrics similarly notes that toddlers learn language largely through imitation, often copying adult words and phrases as they attempt to make sense of their world. This can lead to charming—and sometimes embarrassing—misunderstandings when children apply familiar words to new situations.
Research also shows that children between the ages of 18 and 24 months may use a single word to describe multiple related concepts. In this case, the toddler appears to have associated Pilates with something exciting or social, translating it into the much more familiar idea of a party.
Although @emjanecourt enjoys Pilates as a way to improve her well-being, her toddler’s version of events has clearly resonated with parents everywhere, serving as a reminder that when it comes to toddlers, even the most-ordinary routines can take on an unexpectedly glamorous twist.
Since being posted, the video has sparked more than 260 comments, with parents chiming in to share similar stories of toddler-led miscommunication.
